Joulukortteja, osa 1 / Christmas cards, part 1

Tämä viikonloppu oli tämän kuun kolmas ja IHSW. Minä en tällä kertaa ottanut siihen osaa, kun oli muita suunnitelmia, mm. minun ja miesystäväni 11-vuotispäivän juhlistaminen. Ihan täysin ilman luovaa toimintaa tämäkään viikonloppu ei kuitenkaan jäänyt: tein muutaman ristipiston, ja sen lisäksi kokeilin ensimmäistä kertaa elämässäni korttien tekoa ilman mitään valmista ohjetta tai kittiä. Kaivoin vain esille viivottimen, sakset, liimaa, korttipohjia sekä erilaisia tarroja, papereita ja koristeita ja annoin mielikuvitukseni leikkiä. Tämmöistä sain aikaan:

This weekend was the third weekend of this month, and therefore IHSW. This time, I didn't participate for I had other plans, such as celebrating 11 years of togetherness with my boyfriend. I did manage to spend a few hours with crafts too, though. What you can see in the pictures above are my very first attempts at making cards without any ready-made patterns or kits. I just got out my ruler, scissors, some glue, card bases, and different kinds of stickers, papers and ornaments, and let my imagination play. I think the results are not bad for a first try. I'm sure that after some practising I'll be able to think of some more creative, original and clever ways of decorating my cards, but right now I'm pretty happy with this weekend's creations.

Kiitos kaikista paranemistoivotuksista, flunssa ei onneksi kestänyt kuin muutaman päivän.

Kuten kuvasta näkyy, olen tehnyt kankaalle samanlaisen ruudukon kuin ohjeessakin on helpottamaan ja nopeuttamaan pistelyä. Nyt on helpompi saada oikea määrä pistoja oikeaan paikkaan, ei tarvi montaa kertaa tarkistaa laskelmia ja pelätä virheitä. Ruudukko on tehty Easy-Count Guidelinella, jota Ewa kerran blogissaan suositteli.

Kuva ei vielä näytä juuri miltään, kun on pelkkää sysimustaa ja parissa kohtaa häivähdys sinistä, mutta ensi kuun päivityksessä on sitten jo enemmän värejä ja ehkä jopa erottuvia muotoja/hahmojakin! Nyt täksi viikoksi Baby samplerin pariin, siitä kuvaa viikon kuluttua!

Thank you for all the "get well soon" -wishes, luckily the cold only lasted a few days.

As you can see, I have traced on the fabric the same grid that can be found on the chart. This improves my stitching speed and accuracy, as I won't have to check my calculations as many times or be as afraid of making mistakes as before. For gridding I used Easy-Count Guideline (recommended by Ewa in her blog a while back).

It's not much of a pic yet, as as it's just black with a hint of blue in a couple of places, but in next month's update there'll be more colours (or at least more shades of blue!) and possibly even some recognisable shapes for you to spot! Now I'm switching to Baby sampler for this week, I'll be back with progress pics after the weekend!

Oli taas kuun kolmas viikonloppu ja IHSW eli International Hermit and Stitch Weekend. Minun osaltani se meni suurimmaksi osaksi sairastaessa: olin viime viikon erään flunssaisen kielten opettajan sijaisena, ja sain siltä keikalta matkaani flunssan itsellenikin. Vietin lauantai-illan ja eilisen päivän kuumeessa eikä pistelystä tullut oikein mitään kun oli niin surkea ja päänsärkyinen olo. Pistelin sen minkä jaksoin ja jatkan tänään. Nyt on olo jo huomattavasti parempi, ei tunnu enää kuumeiselta eikä päätäkään enää särje, vain nuha ja kurkkukipu vaivaavat.

It was, once again, the third weekend of a month and IHSW. This time, I spent most of it suffering from a terrible cold, unable to stitch. In the pictures you can see the little bit of progress I made. Today, it feels like my temperature is back to normal and my head no longer aches, so I only have the sore throat and the runny nose to contend with and will hopefully be able to stitch a bit to make up for the weekend's lack of progress.
